When Monica moved to the UK for her Master’s in September 2023, she didn’t expect her job search to feel so overwhelming. By October, she had started applying – but quickly found herself stuck.
“I was so lost. I didn’t know where to start. My CV was generic. My LinkedIn was just there – I had it, but I didn’t know how powerful it could be.”
Despite applying regularly, she faced rejection after rejection and wasn’t landing any interviews. Like many others, Monica assumed the only way forward was to apply more – but something wasn’t working.
A Small Shift That Made a Huge Difference
That’s when she came across TechTalk’s Instagram. She applied just a couple of the tips shared – and within a week, everything changed.
“Literally about a week after applying those changes, a company contacted me wanting to interview me. It was amazing.”
By updating her LinkedIn layout, using the right keywords, and taking a more strategic approach, Monica started seeing results. Not only did she land multiple interviews – but 70% of them came from companies who reached out to her on LinkedIn.
“I was interviewing with four companies before I accepted my offer – and all of them contacted me first.”
Intentional Effort That Pays Off
Beyond optimising her online presence, Monica changed how she prepared for interviews. She focused on showcasing growth, researching companies thoroughly, and using structured answers.
“I researched the company that hired me – their website, their LinkedIn, even what podcasts they’d been on. They could tell I was interested, and that made all the difference.”
Instead of applying for dozens of roles each day, Monica adopted a more thoughtful, targeted approach.
“People would say you have to apply for 70 jobs a day. I didn’t want to do that. I believed in being strategic – and it worked.”
Her story is a reminder that effective job hunting isn’t about quantity – it’s about strategy, self-awareness, and showing up prepared.
“I honestly don’t know what I would have done without your tips. I’d probably still be applying with no strategy.”
